Covid-19 Situation in Pattaya

Latest update of Pattaya's Corona Virus Covid-19 Crisis

April 2, 2020

Pattaya, the city well-known as 'Sleepless City' where day and night is not different because it's always been packed with tourists from around the world and the traffic is as jammed as in Bangkok Thailand. People here including tourists normally spend their wild side of life day and night and seems both city itself and people living here never go to bed. However, things really changed NOWWW.

It's Thursday afternoon here, 1:44 pm, and am sitting here right before my computer screen quietly alone inside my small room which normally never happened before because I normally have things to do and work for living outside. But now, everything is completely shut down day and night for almost a week already. Places allowed to open in specific time and most of them urged to close at 6:00pm. It's very strange here since I have been living here in Pattaya since 2000 and never have seen something like this before my whole 20 years since I live here. Day time usually very noisy and busy outside especially where I live which located next to Sukhumvit Highway, the main road connecting Bangkok with eastern seaboards provinces where industry is growing higher than the rest parts of Thailand, today everything is shut and the road is very quiet.

People routine also getting chaged, the picture of many people coming out to do their daily chores have been gone, few people seen in morning market. House, shops, food stalls and everything is only around 10% left. People seem to rush when they are outside, their face look worried and they seem to buy or do what they need to do and hurry back home - so this is the day scene here right now in Pattaya around where I live which is a little bit on an outskirt area of Pattaya.

Regading night time, yes, as expected, everything is quiet and dark. People stop doing things from 6:00pm already - with no surprise, the road is 99% empty. The government ask people to stay at home in order to reduce or slow the spreading of virus. However, the number of infected people are increasing 100+ average daily which right now, today, Now, Thailand has 104 new cases, 1,875 total and 18 deaths already. Everyone here in Thailand and of course including me are frightened and hope things will get better soon.

The following pictures are the night scenes of the very well-known spots of Pattaya Walking Street and some of them are in South Pattaya - the crowdest area. and some of them are on Sukhumvit highway from my news reporter friends camera.

An hour ago, I went to buy instant food in famous convenient shop 7-11, I was not allowed to get inside because I didn't put mask on my nose and mouth. Things quite in panic and stress over here in Pattaya because many people lost their jobs right away after the government annoucced the emergency decree. Actually, everyhing slowed down since last month already when the 1st spread in Thailand by Chinese tourists. Oh, and right now in Chonburi province where Pattaya is located, I've read the report yesterday that Chonburi is the 2nd highest infected numbers in Thailand, 59, also almost hundreds of them to be monitored and followed up closely.

Every place where people might gather up are ordered to close including park, beach, restaurant only allow taking away, school, office, and95% others of them are ordered to close and postpone in many businesses. Some of school start planning on remote study via internet at home. The situation over here doesn't look good at all and still can't see or expect when it supposes to end.
